1. Survey Class Badan  klasifikasi kapal merupakan bagian penting dari sebuah bangunan kapal. Di Indonesia sendiri sudah terdapat badan klasifikasi yaitu Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) namun keberadaan BKI masih belum dapat untuk menjadi anggota asosiasi dunia. Namun untuk kapal yang berlayar di daerah perairan Indonesia dapat menggunakan peraturan dari BKI. Selain BKI di Indonesia sendiri tidak jarang menggunakan klas asing untuk sebuah kapal. Klas yang biasa digunakan oleh kapal di Indonesia antara lain LR (Lloyd Register), BV (Bureau Veritas), RINA (Registro Italiano Navale),GL (Germanischer Lloyd), maupun ABS (American Bureau of Shipping).  (Gambar 1.
